Se trata de un sismo de una magnitud superior a los 7 puntos en la escala de Ritcher.
Un terremoto de magnitud 7,1 se registró este sábado en el continente antártico, por lo que las autoridades chilenas emitieron una alerta de tsunami y llamaron a evacuar las bases militares en el lugar. Con apenas 30 minutos de diferencia, otro movimiento telúrico se dio en la zona central del país sudamericano, seguramente una réplica, de 5,9 grados.
«Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográfico de la Armada de Chile (Shoa) indica sismo magnitud 7,1 a 216 kilómetros al noreste de Base O’Higgins, Antártica Chilena, y solicita abandonar bases militares», informó la Oficina Nacional de Emergencia del Ministerio del Interior (Onemi) a través de un comunicado.
De acuerdo a la agencia de noticias Sputnik, también el Sistema Nacional de Alarma de Maremotos (SNAM) emitió una alerta de tsunami para las costas chilenas. El terremoto se registró a las 20:50 horas (23:50 GMT) y la Onemi estimó que el posible tsunami podría arribar a costas de la Antártida dentro las próximas horas.
